Details on club membership for the 1996–1997 season.
At the club we track three kinds of years: calendar years, fiscal years and membership years. Each one lasts twelve months, but none of them begin on the same date.
Everyone is familiar with the calendar year, but two other twelve-month periods also affect the club and its members financially.
Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. This twelve-month span sets our budget and the terms of office for board members, and our tax returns are filed for this same period.
There is also the membership year of the United States Figure Skating Association, which runs from October 1 to September 30 of the next calendar year.
USFSA membership is not pro-rated, so joining halfway through the skating year still means paying the full price. This adds complexity because the school year begins somewhere between late August and early September, depending on the school. Many of our school-age members use skating as an alternative physical education program, so our club skating programs must start at roughly the same time. Below is the club's basic policy on membership dues, with provisions for new members who want to join club sessions during September.
Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club works to keep dues as low as possible. Dues cover only the required overhead—USFSA dues, "Skating" magazine subscriptions, the club newsletter, insurance and other membership-related administrative costs. Club programs such as club ice, lessons, club shows and competitions are funded through a mix of fundraisers and participant fees.
All members should have received their membership packets by now. If you have not, please contact Beverly Salaz.
Fees for 1996–97 are as follows:
First skating member or professional: $60.00
Each additional skating or non-skating member: $35.00
Associate member: $35.00
The board has also passed a resolution requiring 25 hours of volunteer time, or an extra $100 per family for those using certain qualifying club services. If you do not use any of these services, the requirement is waived.
Fees for additional skating and non-skating members are now the same (non-skaters paid slightly less in past years). We have repeatedly seen situations where a parent steps onto the ice or goes backstage, where the wet floor from skaters entering and leaving the ice made conditions more hazardous for those in shoes. Because of this, last year we decided it was best to insure all members. If a non-skater later decides to start skating, they no longer need to upgrade their membership as in the past.
Dear Member:
Enclosed you will find your preprinted membership registration, club information card and volunteer request form, and for some members, a statement of money owed in place of volunteer hours.
