Details on club membership for the 1995-1996 season.
At the club we track three different 12-month periods: calendar years, fiscal years and membership years. None of them begin on the same date.
Everyone is familiar with the calendar year, but two other 12-month periods also affect the club and its members financially.
Our fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. This 12-month period sets our budget and the term of office for board members, and our tax returns are filed for this same period.
There is also the United States Figure Skating Association's membership year, which runs from October 1 through September 30 of the following calendar year.
USFSA membership is not pro-rated, so joining halfway through the skating year still means paying the full price. This also complicates scheduling, since the school year begins somewhere between late August and early September depending on the school, and our school programs need to start right away. With that in mind, here is the club's basic policy on membership dues.
The Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club works to keep dues as low as possible. Dues cover only the costs needed for USFSA dues, "Skating" magazine subscriptions, the club newsletter, insurance and other membership-related administrative expenses. Club programs such as club ice, lessons, club shows and competitions are funded through a mix of fundraisers and participant fees.
All members should have received their membership packets by now. If you have not, please contact Beverly Salaz
The 95-96 fees are as follows...
First skating member or professional, $51.00
Additional skating or non skating member, $31.00
Associate member, $31.00
In addition, the board passed a resolution requiring 25 hours of volunteer time, or an extra $100 per family for those using certain qualifying club services. If you do not use any of these services, the requirement is waived.
Fees for additional skating and non-skating members are now the same (non-skaters paid slightly less in past years). We kept running into situations where a parent would step onto the ice or go backstage, where the wet floor from skaters entering and leaving the ice made things more hazardous for those in shoes, so last year we decided it was best to insure all members. If a non-skater decides to start skating, they no longer need to upgrade their membership as they did in the past.
The Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club is pleased to welcome you to its 1995-96 season. We have an exciting year ahead, and this membership package contains everything you need to get your skating year started: the 1995-96 membership card, the USFSA NCR forms and the club sessions schedule. Please remember that the NCR forms must be completely filled out and signed before you or your child can skate, and that a parent must sign one of the forms and return it with the child's form
Our first Wednesday session is September 6, 1995, and our first Monday session is September 11, 1995. The sessions are the same as last year, though prices have risen slightly for all sessions to reflect higher ice costs.
As usual, you can sign up for sessions on Wednesday afternoons. Carol Maloy, our Session Chairman, will be at the arena to register all skaters. Sessions are filled on a first-come basis. Terrie Gershman, President of the club, will also be on hand Wednesday to answer any questions you may have.
This year we will host several ice skating events. The OktoberDanceFest ice dancing competition takes place October 15, 1995. The Crystalline Classic showcase competition is set for late March or early April of 1996. The Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club will co-host the Pacific Coast Precision Team Championships in Berkeley in late February 1996. Club ice show dates are not set yet, but we anticipate mid to late May of 1996. The Redwood Classic freestyle competition returns in mid August 1996. As you can see, we have a very full year ahead.
We look forward to seeing all of you and to your participation in as many of our events as possible. Welcome to a great skating year.
