ENTRIES:
Contestants may enter at any level for which they qualify, or any level higher. They may enter a category at only one level.

Men and ladies will compete in the same groups. Novice, Junior, Senior will be divided by draw. All other events will be divided into groups with skaters of similar skating ability and ages, based on the opinion of the Competition Committee. Juvenile and Intermediate skaters will not be mixed. Categories may be divided, or expanded, or combined depending on the number of entries, at the discretion of the Competition Committee.

Two entries are required to hold an event. Refunds will be made if an event is not held.

Previous winners of the Crystalline Classic Award (First Place Overall) cannot enter or compete in the Redwood Empire Crystalline Classic Competition in an individual/single event. They may, however, enter and compete in a pairs or group event.

All skaters 18 years of age and over, and parents of skaters under 18 years of age must sign an Assumption of Risk form.

Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Committee, and may be charged a late fee of up to $25.00.

CATEGORIES:

LIMITED(LTD):    No axels or double jumps permitted.
DRAMATIC:    A serious or emotional rendering of the skater's music.
LIGHT:    A category which is entertaining, not dramatic.
PAIRS:    Two skaters - Boy/Girl.
SIMILAR PAIRS:   Two skaters - Girl/Girl or Boy/Boy.
GROUPS:    A group of skaters performing to a program built on a specific theme.   The Competition Committee shall, by size and type, determine which groups skate against each other.
MULTI-GENERATIONAL PAIRS:   Those skating in this event must be related, and of two or more generations - i.e. Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Grandparent/Grandchild, Uncle/Aunt/Cousin.
PROFESSIONAL:   Open only to those skaters as defined by the USFSA as INELIGIBLE.

SINGLES/PAIRS LEVELS:

PRE-PRELIMINARY: Ability of Pre-Prelimary Test.
PRELIMINARY: Ability of Preliminary Test.
PRE-JUVENILE: Ability of Pre-Juvenile Test.
JUVENILE: Ability of Juvenile Test. Must be 12 years or younger as of 2/28/98.
OPEN JUVENILE: Ability of Juvenile Test. Must be 13 years or older as of 2/28/98.
INTERMEDIATE: Ability of Juvenile/Intermediate Test.
NOVICE: Ability of Intermediate/Novice Test.
JUNIOR: Ability of Novice/Junior Test.
SENIOR: Ability of Junior/Senior Test.
ADULT PRE-BRONZE: Ability of Pre-Bronze Test.
ADULT BRONZE: Ability of Bronze Test.
ADULT SILVER: Ability of Silver Test.
ADULT GOLD: Ability of Gold Test.
MASTERS: No division by test. 40+ years of age.
PROFESSIONAL: Only those defined as ineligible by USFSA.

There is no minimum time for music. You are allowed 10 seconds above the time limit for your category.

SPECIAL NEEDS EVENT:
This is a demonstration event open to skaters with special physical limitations. It is open to skaters of any level, and may have a coach on the ice with the skater. This event may have music if desired, but is not required. All skaters will receive an award. The skaters in this event are encouraged to demonstrate their skills.


NOTE ABOUT INTERPRETIVE:
Due to time constraints, and the decision to offer other categories and levels, Interpretive events will not be held this year. Hopefully, in the future they will be offered again.

ENTRIES:
Entry Forms and Special Needs Entry Forms are attached and must be filled out legibly. Entry Forms must be mailed with Entry Fee to the Registrar. If you have any questions, please call. Only calls made before 9:00 p.m. will be accepted. All entries must be postmarked by February 28th 1998. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the competition committee and/or Chief Referee. Late entries may be assessed up to a $25.00 late fee.

CRYSTALLINE CLASSIC COMPETITION
MARCH 27, 28, 29 1998.



GENERAL RULES

  1. Crystalline Classic will be held at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena at1667 West Steele Lane, Santa Rosa CA 95403, on March 27, 28, 29, and is sponsored by the Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club.  This competition is sanctioned by the USFSA.

  2. This Competition will be conducted in accordance with the 1998 USFSA Rulebook.

  3. All skaters must be a member in good standing of the USFSA.

  4. Skating will be judged primarily for entertainment value (artistic and theatrical qualities.)

  5. Siblings will be separated whenever possible.

  6. All events may be divided by the chief referee.

  7. The minimum number of entries needed to hold an event is two.  Single entries will be canceled and entry fees returned.

  8. Schedules: Please do not call and ask for a competition schedule.  Enclose a self addressed, stamped envelope, and we will be happy to mail you one.  All participating clubs will receive a competition schedule.

  9. Refunds Of Entry Fees: Refund of entry fees will be made in accordance with CR 33.05.   If a skater withdraws prior to the closing date February 28th, 1998, fees will be refunded.  Otherwise, refunds will be made only if the failure to participate is due to a medical condition certified by a licensed physician.

  10. The Chief Referee's interpretation of the rules and decisions on all questions not covered by these rules shall be final.

  11. All skaters 18 years of age and older must sign the Assumption of Risk form.  All skaters under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian sign the Assumption of Risk form.

REGISTRATION
A Registration Desk will be located in the lobby of the ice arena.  All competitors are required to register, turn in their music, and be ready to skate one hour before scheduled time of their event.

BULLETIN BOARD and NOTICES
An official Bulletin Board will be maintained. The most current tentative schedule and skating order will be posted. This schedule supersedes all other schedules. Notices on this Board are to be considered sufficient notice to all persons. A tentative schedule with entries by event and group will be sent to all participating clubs.

ARENA AND ICE SURFACE
The Redwood Empire Ice Arena is 185 x 85 feet with slightly rounded corners.


LOCKER ROOMS
The S.R.F.S.C locker room is for Santa Rosa Club members only. There will be a guest locker room for out of town competitors. Food is not permitted in any of the locker rooms.

WARM UP
Warm up will be approximately two strips backstage. Doubles or camel spins are not permitted on backstage ice. Novice and above will receive on ice warm up before their specific event .

MUSIC
All music must be a cassette tape. Tapes must be clearly marked with competitor's name and event. Tapes must be cued and ready to play when turned in. It is a good idea to have a backup tape in your possession. Tapes must be picked up at the registration desk after the completion of each event.

LIGHTS
Follow spots will be used . Skaters have the option of using house lights. It is the intention of the arena to use colored follow spots for all events including pairs and groups unless the backstage mangers notified prior to the skaters event.

SAFETY RULES FOR PROPS

  1. For safety reasons the following props are not permitted, but not limited to, live animals, balloons, candles, feather boas, feathers, fog, dry ice, power cords, all types of glass, power driven items.

  2. If props are used they must be removed in one minute.

  3. Live people props may walk on in skates but they must remain at their fixed location during the performance.

  4. All props will be inspected by the safety committee before they are allowed on the ice.

  5. The use of any prop may be denied at the discretion of the competition committee.

AWARDS
Awards will be presented to all competitors. Awards will be presented to places First, Second, and Third. All other places will receive a participant award.

Marcia Kresge Award:The Marcia Kresge Award will be presented to the Preliminary through Juvenile skater who receives the highest placement in the recall event. The skater must be 12 years of age or younger. Previous winners are ineligible.

Crystalline Classic Award:The Crystalline Classic Award will be presented to the recall skater with the highest placement in the Recall Event. All level skaters will be eligible for this award. Groups, however, are not eligible for a recall award. Previous winners of this award may not compete again for the recall award in the same type of event. However previous single winners may compete in pairs or pairs may compete as singles.

RECALLS
In order to be recalled a skater must place first in their event or place immediately after a recalled skater . At no time will a skater be recalled if they have not placed first, second or third. If a skater is recalled for more than one program he/she must decide which program to skate. However a skater may skate as a single and again as a pair.

GROUPS
A group may be recognized for their achievement, however, they are not eligible for a recall award.

FLOWERS
There will be a flower booth in the front lobby of the ice arena.

PHOTOGRAPHER
The official photographer of the Crystalline Classic is Robert Koch Studios.

VIDEO
The official video service contractor is R & J Video of Stockton, CA.
