Ice arena manager Craig Gates (center) in the control room. From here all lighting & communications are coordinated. This system places all of the light stations, the competition referee, announcer & backstage on one communications net.
Everyone knows about judges & the important role they play in scoring competitiors, but each judge only sees their own scores. The referee, who does see all of the scores, has to oversee the competition & make decisions regarding compliance with competition rules, so we have accountants to actually tally the scores.
In accounting, a runner brings the scores up to the accounting room. There two or more teams of accountants & assistants tally the scores into separate computers. If the results in all computers match (balance) then the results are printed and made public. At Crystalline, the ice arena's ballet room is converted into a spacious accounting room, where scoring, runner tasks, official conferences & (recently) internet communications can be coordinated. After the scores have been tallied & the offical sheet has been printed (called a protocol sheet) the scores are transferred onto a competition form. Copies of this form ar posted on the score board for eveyone to view & delivered to the Referee, Announcer, Photographer, awards & the Internet station. There are probably two people behind the scenes for each judge on the panel.
Accountants tally competitions scores (left) while a runner prepares a board with winners names on it for the competition photographer.
Judges & accountants & their support staff are busy
people & they need food & refreshments. This is the job of the
hospitality room & it's staff.
