New For 2000

*NEW CATEGORY*: "THEMED" LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

A new category, entitled "Themed" Light Entertainment, is being introduced for the new millennium. An entire professional set will be created for skaters to interact with and use. The skater still has the responsibilities for choosing the music, character portrayal (if desired) and of course the actual skating program itself. The competition committee has chosen a theme of "Joe's Cool Cafe", a setting depicting a fifties malt shop or Rock n'Roll Cafe. Set pieces that will be usable will be: A Freestanding Bar/Soda Counter, Several Tables and Chairs, Two Cafe Booths, and a Full-Sized Upright Piano (prop). A five minute preview of the assembled set will be permitted for all skaters, prior to the running of this category.

*NEW CATEGORY*: "THEMED" DRAMATIC

A second new category, entitled "Themed" Dramatic, is also being introduced for the new millennium. A complete professional set will be created for skaters to interact with and use. The competition committee has chosen a theme of "A Night At The Opera", with a setting of a very elegant or stately opera house entry. The set will be created using a Switch-Back Staircase, Marble Pillars, Candelabrums, Marble Fountains and a Full-Sized Baby Grand Piano (prop). The arena will provide a limited amount of fog for skaters wishing to use it in this "Themed" category. Any operatic, symphonic, or dramatic music may be used. (You are not limited to the use of Operatic or "Phantom of the Opera" musical selections.) A five minute preview of the assembled set will be permitted for all the skaters, prior to the running of this category.

**RETURN OF A FAVORITE OLD CATEGORY*: "COMEDY"

A category reserved just for comedic routines (singles, pairs and groups). Material must be tasteful, non-harmful to the ice and audience. Maximum time allotted is 2 minutes.

LIGHTS

The Redwood Empire Ice Arena has always had a very sophisticated lighting system. This year the arena will introduce the use of even more sophisticated equipment by introducing the use of ROBOTIC LIGHTS, VARIETY OF NEW SPECIALTY LIGHTS, AND CHASING SEQUENCE LIGHTING. The arena's lighting directors will use their expertise in selecting what combination of lighting instruments, colors and patterns are to be used for each skater's number. There are a variety of moving lights including: robotic, specialty instruments, strobes, chasing lights and mirror balls which can be disorienting for some skaters. SKATERS THAT DO NOT WANT MOVING LIGHTS OF ANY KIND OR WISH TO SKATE WITH HOUSE LIGHTS ONLY, MUST NOTIFY THE BACKSTAGE MONITORS DURING THE WARM-UP, PRIOR TO THEIR NUMBER.
