On October18th, the board convened the first committee meetingfor the upcoming spring show. There is much work to be done. Anyonewho has been involved with a spring show in Santa Rosa knows whatan undertaking it is for everyone. Every other year, in the fallwe assemble a new skating troop whose job is to assemble a fullfledged skating company that will produce costumes, props, backdrops, sell tickets, design programs, throw a cast celebration &practice, practice, practice, and in the end, transform the RedwoodEmpire Ice Arena into a showplace complete with stage, curtains& beautiful lights. All for one wonderful week on the ice.
The organizing team has met now, participation rules & feeshave been set and soon that information will be going out to allof you. Participation in the show is open to all skating clubmembers. For some it is the chance of a lifetime, for others it'sthe first step of turning a dream into a reality.
We have some fun jobs for you too! Every troop needs it's backstagecrew & hospitality staff. We have lots to do and we're goingto do it.
Don't let their oversight spoil you're good time, get in touchwith Terrie, or a committee chair in charge of something you wantto help out with. No one is purposely excluded.
Well, let's just call it our escape to Africa for now! Everyoneneeds an escape. All new theme, new stars. Well, almost, the membersof last show's cast had such a good time with Snoopy that we'veasked him if he'll do another show with us. We're hoping to hearfrom him soon.
This show is designed to give our skaters an idea of what it mightbe like to be a skater in a professional ice show. Many youngskaters dream of such a way of life, and recently, several formerclub show skaters have turned this kind of dream into their dailyreality.
Unfortunately the show is expensive to produce and normally loses2 to 4 thousand dollars. It's a worthwhile investment in youth! Many years ago it actually made money once. That has not beena repeated feat. More than making it pay it's way, we'd just likeall of you to join the party & have a good time. We'd rathermaintain our goals, than lower our standards.
The thing I most distinctly remember about the first SRFSC clubshow I went to occurred after the final bows, of the last showwere taken, when this army of young shakers raced backstage anddrug the show's coach/choreographers out in front of the crowdand wanted the audience to give them a hand. I knew then thatI had experienced a very special moment in these peoples lives.
