This page no longer sends e-mail, since the competition has concluded. It did receive some good complements. A few competitors did not hear announcements about the board, or see it next to the souveneir table, so we turned their mail over to the DJ at the party to find them, or a team member. The board was full to overflowing until toward the end of the day. There was only one instance where mail was delayed by someone's Internet Service Provider  until the next day, too late to deliver. That provider's domain name is msn.com. Customers of that provider should note that their mail delivery may be somewhat less than immediate.

A BIT OF NOSTALGIA ABOUT THE TELEGRAM BOARD

My wife, Kris Svenson, resurrected the idea of the telegram boad, based on her good experiences with them during her competitive career. Her last competition was U.S. Nationals 30 years ago in this same arena.

When we arrived, I asked where our (pre-arranged) telegram board was, and was met with glassy eyes. This left Kris & I to scour the arena, looking for something we could use. As we went through a set of double doors, Kris pointed to an old, battered, oak, sandwitch board, calmly stating, that's it! I was to find out the old telegram board, now over 30 years old, had survived time & was stilll being used by the rink. So not only did we revive an idea that had gone by the wayside, but that old telegram board she remembered performed the task one more time.

For those of you who visit the bay area, BERKELEY ICELAND is a historic structure, about 60 years old. It is one of the largest rinks in the U.S.. For those of you who know what a wood floor rink is, it has one. The effect is a lot like skating on a smooth pond, rather than a piece of concrete that concrete and sand floored rinks give. Time has stood still for this deco-style structure. It is a trip back in time to another day of ice skating.

Remember the old Telegram boards? Years ago, when phones weren't so plentiful & calls so inexpensive, there was always
a wall, or bulletin board at skating competitions where telegrams bidding good wishes, congradulations, etc. were posted for the skaters. We invite you to send Internet e-mail to your favorite competitors. They will all be posted on the telegram board. It's not something new, just an old idea that's back.

We will accept e-mail to competitors from now, through the close of the competition. everything received by Thursday night will be posted at the rink on Friday. Friday & Saturday's e-mail will be posted Satrurday AM, so don't send anything urgent Friday.

Send mail for the competitiors to [email protected] .Place the name of your recipient{s} in the subject field of the mail header.

Can you send mail to us? Yes, but we will give posting of scores on the web & e-mail to competitors our highest priority. We'll reply to all mail to us, but it may not always be instantaneous.
