Standings

The number to the left of the team represents their placing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc). The numbers to the right indicate how each judge placed the team. The set of numbers separated by a / indicate the number of judges scores that ranked the team in that place, followed by the place. if a score with a decimal appears to right of all others, it represents the team's factored placing (Junior & Senior teams only). For Junior & Senior teams, there is a third set of scores which represent their combined (final) standing.

We have made a request for the actual numerical scores the judges gave the teams. We didn't see the value in this at first, then some of you explaind your reasoning & it made sense. We have not received a no answer to our request and that is encouraging. On the other hand we did not get a yes either. I am proceeding with posting what we have and I hope the USFSA will send you what you have asked for.

If you click on the title for each event, you will be able to view the actual official protocol sheet we have received from the USFSA accountant. In addition to what you see on this summary page, the actual sheets also contain the judges names.

A laymans introduction to scoring
  1. Those numbers we hear on the TV that we make such a big deal about when they don't seem high enough are overplayed. If Judge A scores the best competitor's performance as a 5.8, and Judge B scores the same competitor as a 4.9, and neither judge scores any other competitor higher, then both judges ranked the the skater in first place.
  2. When there are multiple programs that a competitor must perform, like the short & freestyle programs in our Junior & senior divisions, both performances are scored separately & assigned a factored place, or numerical value. In our case the short program has a value of .5 per place. First place gets a .5, 2nd a 1.0, third a 1.5, etc. The Freestyle program is worth 2/3 of the overall score, so it get's factored placings of 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc.
  3. The factored placings, not those through scores you hear on TV, are added together and the competitor with the lowest number (1.5 being the lowest possible in our instance) as a factored place is awarded first place, etc.
  4. It is possible for competitors to tie. There are tie breaking
