OKTOBERDANCEFEST RULES AND GENERAL INFORMATION
* Each dance competitor MUST BE an eligible member in good standing of The United States Figure Skating Association. ** EXCEPT IN THE PRO/AM DANCE EVENTS **
* Due to time restraints, it could be necessary to have dancers skate in flights of 2 or more (not to exceed 4) on the lower dance events.
* The Official Skating Order will be posted at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena, on the Official Competition Bulletin Board (Located In Lobby), Saturday, 10/17/98 by 3:00 P.M.
* All dance competitors MUST BE at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena to check in at the Registration Desk and be ready to skate their event ONE HOUR before their scheduled event(s).
* Skating will be judged primarily on entertainment value (artistic and theatrical qualities).
The Santa Rosa FSC will be using USFSA Dance Judges. The judging for this dance competition will be based on quality of edges, ability to dance the dances, artistic expression and interpretation of the dances and dance events skated.
* Entry Fees are $27.00 per person for the first event and $20.00 per person for each additional event.
* Costumes should be basic costuming for dance competitions. Competition time restraints MAY NOT allow for a change of costumes between dance events.
* The dance events in this competition are meant to be FUN. Dance categories may be split as to age and dance test level when possible and where appropriate.
* Two entries will be required to hold a dance event. Refunds will be made ONLY if the dance event is not held.
* There WILL BE NO acceptance of late entries past the postmarked date of September 11, 1998.
* All dance competitors 18 years of age and older MUST SIGN the Assumption Of Risk Form.
All dance competitors under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian sign the Assumption Of Risk Form.
* Medals will be awarded to the first three places in each event. A "BEST ARTISTIC DANCE AWARD" will be awarded to a male or a female ice dancer and to a dance couple judged to be the most innovative and artistic of the dance competition. (To be judged by a special artistic panel).
A Don Phillips Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the overall solo dancer or dance couple who exhibits the most enthusiasm and love for ice dancing.
* The Redwood Empire Ice Arena (Snoopy�s Home Ice) is located at 1667 West Steele Lane, Santa Rosa, California, 95403. The ice surface is 85 feet x 185 feet with slightly rounded corners. There will be no official dance practice ice. For scheduled dance sessions, please contact The Redwood Empire Ice Arena Staff at (707) 546-7147.
* The Chief Referee's interpretation of the rules and decisions on all questions not covered by these rules, shall be final. The Chief Referee will be Nola Joy Carello.
* All dance entrants MUST SUPPLY their own dance music for the following dance events: "Couple Free Dance"; "PRO/AM Free Dance", "Rhythm On Ice Dance Events", and "Solo Free Dance". All types of music including vocal are permitted. Only cassette tapes marked with skater�s name and dance event will be accepted. TAPES MUST BE CUED AND READY TO PLAY. Back-up cassettes are advised. Only one Free Dance Program shall be recorded on each cassette. Music MUST BE turned in at the Music Desk upon arrival at the ice arena. It is the responsibility of the ice dancer to pick up their dance music immediately after their dance event.

SOLO DANCE: (Ladies And Men May Compete Against Each Other)
Canasta Tango - (No Age Requirements) A dancer may not have passed any of the Silver Dances.
Cha Cha - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Rocker Foxtrot - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Silver Tango - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Blues - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Kilian - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Viennese Waltz - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Hickory Hoedown - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Fourteen Step - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
SOLO FREE DANCE: (No Test Or Age Requirements) Two Minutes Duration. Vocal or Instrumental music. This dance will be judged on Expression, Creativity and Quality of Dance Technique. Refer to current USFSA Free Dance Rules.
COUPLE EVENTS: (Shall Consist Of A Lady And A Man) And (No Test Or Age Requirements)

Silver Samba
COUPLE FREE DANCE: (No Test Or Age Requirements) Both dancers MUST BE amateurs. Minimum One Minute, Maximum Four Minutes Duration. Vocal or Instrumental music. Refer to current USFSA Free Dance Rules. The Chief Referee may separate this dance event in regards to dance test level.
PRO/AM DANCE EVENTS: (One Partner MUST BE A Professional/Ineligible Dancer)
PRO/AM Fiesta Tango - (The only person judged will be the Eligible dancer). The Professional/Ineligible skater or partner may skate with more than one partner. The Eligible dancer MAY NOT be above the Silver Dance Test Level.
PRO/AM Fourteenstep - (The only person judged will be the Eligible dancer). The Professional/Ineligible skater or partner may skate with more than one partner. (No Test Or Age Requirements)
PRO/AM Viennese Waltz - (The only person judged will be the Eligible dancer). The Professional/Ineligible skater or partner may skate with more than one partner. (No Test Or Age Requirements)
PRO/AM FREE DANCE: (The only person judged will be the Eligible dancer). The Professional/Ineligible skater or partner may skate with more than one partner. (No Test Or Age Requirements) Maximum 2 1/2 Minutes Duration. Vocal or Instrumental music. Refer to current USFSA Free Dance Rules.
SHADOW DANCE: (Ladies, Men, Or Mixed - Maximum Two Dancers)
Cha Cha - (No Test Requirements) One skater must be 16 years of age or younger and one skater must be 30 years of age or older.
Hickory Hoedown - Dancers may not be above the Silver Dance Test Level.
Rocker Foxtrot - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Westminster Waltz - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
RHYTHM ON ICE DANCE EVENTS: (Ladies And Men May Compete Against Each Other)
These events will be judged on creativity. Flow, use of good edges, spirals, intricate footwork, and creative moves are utmost! NO JUMPS ALLOWED! Maximum Two Minutes Duration. Dancers may carry safe props if they are hand held during the entire routine. Any prop deemed unsafe will be eliminated!Rhythm On Ice # 1 - (No Test Or Age Requirements)
Skaters must supply their own music version to the song "Mame".
Rhythm On Ice # 2 - (No Age Requirements) A dancer MUST BE a partial Silver Dance Medalist or Higher.
Skaters must supply their own music version to the song "Candle In the Wind". ENTRY DEADLINE:
