GENERAL RULES

  1. The CCIA Novice/Advanced Competition will be held at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena, 1667 West Steele Lane, Santa Rosa, Ca. 95403 and hosted by the Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club.

  2. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the current USFSA Rulebook, except as herein specified.

  3. A skater's eligibility to enter the competition is governed by the USFSA test structure and appropriate USFSA Competition Rules (CR 30.00 - 38.00). Previous CCIA 1st place winners must enter the next higher class. A skater may enter only one event in each category, e.g. Moves in the Field, Freeskating and Artistic.

  4. ALL SKATERS MUST BE HOME CLUB MEMBERS OF A CCIA CLUB AND HAVE A LOCAL MAILING ADDRESS.

  5. All skaters shall be judged and marked for all portions of all events. Tests passed as of the closing date of entries shall govern. Age as of the first day of the competition shall govern.

  6. Each singles division, except Artistic, will be divided by gender. Siblings will be separated where possible.

  7. Pixie through Senior events will be divided into age groups when 14 or more entered. Basic Moves/Basic Freeskating shall be groups of no more than five (5) skaters.

  8. Awards will be given to each group.

  9. The minimum number of entries per event will be two (2). Single event entry classes will be canceled and the entry fee refunded. However, a single entry class may be an exhibition and/or critique, if requested, and the entry fee will not be refunded.

  10. Refunds after the closing date (May 7, 2026) for entry fees WILL NOT be made without a medical doctor's (on the doctor's stationery) report specifically declaring that the skater is unable to participate due to illness or injury, or notice of a death in the skater's immediate family. A flat rate $25.00 processing fee will be charged. All requests must be submitted within 14 days after the competition (July 4, 2026)

All entries must be received by the registrar by the ENTRY DEADLINE May 7, 2026. Entries accepted after this date are at the discretion of the Competition Referee. The fee for each late entry will be an additional $25.00. Entry will not be accepted within 48 hours of the start of the competition.

ARENA AND ICE SURFACE

The Redwood Empire Ice Arena is an indoor rink with an 85' x 185' ice surface with slightly rounded corners. There is ample parking available in two parking lots adjacent to the arena.

Practice Ice will be available Thursday June 17, ice time has been divided by skating level, please see the attached schedule for your specific time slot (s). For availability and booking of practice ice please call Joanne Bartlett, Arena Secretary , (707) 546-7147, after May 17, 1999.

REGISTRATION

A registration desk will be located in the arena lobby and open prior to the start of the competition. All competitors are required to register, turn in music and be ready to skate one hour prior to the tentatively scheduled time for their event.

MEDICAL RELEASES

Competitors who are chaperoned by a person other than a parent or legal guardian must have a valid authorization for medical treatment in case of illness or accident.

BULLETINS AND NOTICES
An official bulletin board will be maintained in the arena lobby. The most current tentative event schedule and skating orders will be posted on this board. This schedule supersedes all other schedules. Notices posted on this board are considered as sufficient notice to all persons.

MUSIC

All music must be on cassette tape. Only one piece of music per tape. All tapes must be clearly marked with competitor's name and event and MUST be cued and ready to play. All cassettes must be turned in to the registration desk at least one hour prior to their event. A back up cassette tape must be available in the arena. Cassette tapes may be picked up at the registration desk after the conclusion of the event.

AWARDS

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places - Pixie through Senior. Basic Moves/Basic Freeskating events will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place medals. Awards will be presented on the photographer's stand as soon as possible following the posting of results.

The CCIA Memorial Trophy was established to honor those officials, officers and delegates who have given their time and effort to the sport of figure skating and the CCIA. This trophy is awarded to the most artistic Freeskating performance in the Junior Men or Ladies Freeskating event.

VIDEO TAPING

Professional video taping will be provided by R & J Video.

FLOWERS

Bouquets will be sold at the arena during the competition by the Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club.

CONCESSIONS

Food, snacks and beverages are available in the Warm Puppy Coffee Shop located in the Redwood Empire Ice Arena.

WARM-UP TIMES AND GROUPS

Warm up for singles and pairs will be limited to twice the specified length of the Freeskating program but will not exceed six (6) minutes or be less than three (3) minutes.

BASIC MOVES/BASIC FREESKATING

BASIC MOVES 1 - Skaters may not have passed any USFSA Moves in the Field or Freeskating Tests.
1 minute program set to music.
Group 1-A - Skaters who have not reached the age of six (6) as of May 7, 2026
Group 1-B - Skaters who have not reached the age of ten (10) as of May 7, 2026
The compulsory program shall consist of the following four (4) elements. No additional elements are permitted.
  1. Two foot jump in place
  2. Forward swizzles - standing still (3 times)
  3. Moving forward swizzles (3 times)

BASIC MOVES 2 - Skaters may not have passed any USFSA Moves in the Field or Freeskating Tests.
1 minute program set to music.
Group 2-A - Skaters who have not reached the age of six (6) as of May 7, 2026
Group 2-B - Skaters who have not reached the age of nine (9) as of May 7, 2026
Group 2-C - Open - no age restriction

  1. Snowplow stop - one foot or two foot
  2. Forward swizzles - minimum of ten
  3. Bunny hop - maximum of five
  4. Back wiggles or back swizzles - minimum of ten
  5. Dip - deep knee bend while gliding on two feet
  6. Forward one foot glides - left & right

  2. Backward crossovers - clockwise and counter-clockwise - minimum 5 each
  3. Forward inside mohawk followed by extended backward outside edge
  4. T-stop - either foot
  5. Two-foot spin - entry optional

BASIC MOVES 4 - Skaters may not have passed any USFSA Moves in the Field or Freeskating Tests.

MOVES IN THE FIELDThis includes moves for Pixie Derby skaters and Moves in the Field according to USFSA Rulebook patterns for Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice, Junior and Senior.

Moves are to be skated in accord with TR22.00 and the USFSA Rulebook Patterns, except that feet and/or directions will be drawn as indicated, announced and posted by the Competition Chief Referee prior to the start of practice ice. Events may be double paneled as determined by the Competition Chief Referee. Starting orders will be rotated, one mark will be given for each move and accounting computations will be performed as for figures. Passing of the equivalent Freeskating Test may be substituted for a Moves in the Field Test in order to qualify.

PIXIE DERBY MOVES - Open to skaters eight (8) years old and younger who have not passed their Pre-Preliminary Free Skating Test.
Moves are to be skated without music in a continuous sequence of any order within 1 minute, 30 seconds.
  1. Forward crossovers around a full circle in both directions.
  2. Inside open mohawk in either direction holding final edge.
  3. Two foot spin in either direction from a one or two foot start.

PRE-PRELIMINARY MOVES IN THE FIELD - Open to skaters who have not passed the Preliminary Moves in the Field Test.

SINGLES ARTISTICThe Artistic Freestyle Event is to be artistic and interpretive.
There are no restrictions on the artistic freestyle music; vocal or instrumental may be used. Costumes must be in accordance with USFSA rules. No scenery is allowed, and props may not be used unless they are carried throughout the performance. Judges will consider the skater's choreography, style and presentation, as well as the use of skating moves to interpret the music. Speed, deep knee bends, good edges, centered spins and graceful movements are all important. Use of novelty effects, such as, dancing on toepicks, lying or sitting on ice or railing, or lip-synching of music, is not desirable.
One mark will be given based on the composition of the program as a whole, its conformity with the music, the utilization of the ice surface, expression of the music, the quality of the skating, and the originality.
NOTE: THE DIFFICULTY AND/OR NUMBER OF TECHNICAL ELEMENTS WILL NOT BE A VALUE FACTOR.
PRE-PRELIMINARY ARTISTIC - Open to skaters who have not passed their Preliminary Freeskating Test.

A short program in accordance with SSR 504. Solo jump to be the Double Lutz

JUNIOR PAIR SHORT PROGRAM - Open to mixed couples who have passed the Novice Pair Test but not their Senior Pair Test.
A short program in accordance with SSR 5.03, Group C.

SENIOR PAIR SHORT PROGRAM - Open to mixed couples who have passed the Junior Pair Test.
A short program in accordance with SSR.5.02, Group C.

MIXED COUPLE DANCE
The number of sequences will be in accordance with CR 34.07.
PRELIMINARY - Open to couples where neither partner has completed the Pre-Bronze Dance Test. Two dances will be drawn from the Preliminary Dance Test for the initial round. One of the initial round dances plus the remaining Preliminary Dance will constitute the final round dance.

PRE-BRONZE - Open to couples where neither partner has completed the Bronze Dance Test. Two dances will be drawn from the Pre-Bronze Dance Test for the initial round. One of the initial round dances plus the remaining Pre-Bronze Dances will constitute the final round.

Neither partner may have passed a Pre-Silver Dance.
One Round - Swing Dance, Hickory Hoedown

ADULT JUNIOR DANCE - Open to adult couples (25 years of age and older). No test restrictions.
One Round - Willow Waltz, Rocker-Foxtrot

ADULT SENIOR DANCE - Open to adult couples (25 years of age and older). No test restrictions.
One Round - Starlight Waltz, Tango.

PRELIMINARY FREE DANCE - Open to couples who have passed the Preliminary Dance Test but neither may have completed the Bronze Free Dance Test.
1 minute Free Dance.

BRONZE FREE DANCE - Open to couples who have completed the bronze Dance Test but neither may have completed the Silver Dance Test.
2 minute and 30 second Free Dance in Accordance with SSR 12.0.

SILVER FREE DANCE - Open to couples who have completed the Pre-Silver Dance Test but neither may have completed the Gold Dance Test.
3 minute Free Dance in accordance with SSR 12.0.

SHADOW DANCE
Shadow dancing is two persons skating together as a team, shadowing each other either side by side or in front of each other (or at a direct angle to each other), while skating the required dance. Neither partner is permitted to touch the other while skating the required dance but should remain as close as possible. It is required that one of the partners, during the course of the dance, change sides without interruption of the normal course of the dance.

FIESTA TANGO SHADOW DANCE - Open to all skaters who have not passed the Silver Dance Test.
Three patterns are to be skated.

KILIAN SHADOW DANCE - Open to all skaters with no age or test restrictions.
Three patterns are to be skated.

SOLO DANCE
A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) COMPETITORS OF EITHER GENDER IN A CATEGORY ARE REQUIRED FOR AN EVENT TO BE INCLUDED. NO FINAL ROUND.

PRELIMINARY SOLO - Open to skaters who have not completed the Pre-Bronze Dance Test.
Dances - Dutch Waltz, Rhythm Blues.

PRE-BRONZE SOLO - Open to skaters who have not completed the Bronze Dance Test.
Dances - Swing Dance, Cha Cha.

BRONZE SOLO - Open to skaters who have completed the Preliminary Dance Test but who have not completed the Pre-Silver Dance Test. Dances - Hickory Hoedown, Willow Waltz.

PRE-SILVER SOLO - Open to skaters who have completed the Pre-Bronze Dance Test but who have not completed the Silver Dance Test. Dances - Foxtrot, European Waltz.

SILVER SOLO - Open to skaters who have completed the Bronze Dance Test but who have not completed the Pre-Gold Dance Test. Dances - American Waltz, Rocker Foxtrot.

PRE-GOLD SOLO - Open to skaters who have completed the Pre-Silver Dance Test but who have not completed the Gold Dance Test. Dances - Blues, Paso Doble.

GOLD SOLO - Open to skaters who have passed at least one dance of the Silver Dance Test.
Dances - Austrian Waltz, Rhumba.

PRECISION
Precision events will be held in accordance with the current USFSA Rulebook. However, the groups may consist of combined levels depending on the number of entries. This will be at the discretion of the competition referee.
For Junior and Senior levels, the short and long programs will be separate programs.
