Board of Directors and Committees

The Board of the Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club is comprised of fifteen volunteers. They facilitate the various functions of the Club, such as competitions, shows, exhibitions, testing, and skating sessions. They also work to raise funds and monitor the Club's financial stability.

But these fifteen dedicated Board members can't do it alone. Operations of the SRFSC depend entirely upon volunteer assistance from Club members and parents (which is why we require ten volunteer hours from each member family annually). Events won't run smoothly without your help! Please volunteer in any way you can. 

The functions of the Board members and committees are described briefly below:

OFFICERS
From time to time, you may see competition applications that require the signature of a club officer. The officers, elected by a vote of Club members, serve in the following positions:

President: A position elected every even year for a two-year term. The president oversees the running of Board meetings and the ongoing activities of the various committees. He or she can appoint and dismiss Board members with reason, with the approval of the Board of Directors.

Vice President: A position elected every even year for a two-year term. The vice president performs the duties of the president when necessary. He or she acts as parliamentarian at Club functions and acquires sanctions for Club events as required.

Secretary: A position elected every odd year for a two-year term. The secretary records and maintains meeting minutes and policies and procedures. He or she is responsible for maintaining the Club calendar, documents, and correspondence and also keeps the bulletin board current.

Treasurer: A position elected every odd year for a two-year term. The treasurer is responsible for providing and maintaining complete financial accounts of the Club's belongings. He or she prepares checks as required and collects and deposits incoming funds. The treasurer provides regular financial reports to the Board of Directors as required. He or she assembles and monitors yearly budget and tax preparation.

Members at Large: There are four elected members at large: two are elected every even year, and two are elected every odd year. All serve a two-year term. There are no specific duties assigned to these Board members, but they frequently chair ad hoc committees as requested by the Board.

APPOINTED POSITIONS
The following Board positions are appointed by the president and approved by the Board of Directors each year. All are voting members of the Board.

Test Chair, Singles and Pairs: This test chair schedules ice times and judges, collects applications and fees, and prepares schedules and all paperwork required by the USFSA and the Club related to singles and pairs testing. He or she is also responsible for reporting all singles and pairs test results of Club members for publication and awards.

Dance Test Chair: The dance test chair schedules ice times and judges, collects applications and fees, and prepares schedules and all paperwork required by the USFSA and the Club related to dance testing. He or she is also responsible for reporting all dance test results of Club members for publication and awards.

Membership Chair: The membership chair collects all required forms and fees as required by the USFSA and the Club for SRFSC membership. He or she maintains accurate listings and pertinent information on all members.

Competitions Chair: The competitions chair maintains all required information on upcoming competitions to be held at the SRFSC home club and other area clubs. He or she provides applications and schedules when necessary. The competitions chair is also responsible for recording and reporting the competition results of all Club members for publication and awards.

Synchronized Skating Chair: This position is responsible for the direction of the synchronized skating team program and for the management of the synchronized skating team's financial account. Duties involve working with skaters, pros, parents, and arena management regarding ice time, practice, exhibitions, competitions, travel, and other related matters.

Sessions Chair: The sessions chair coordinates Club skating session dates and times and keeps Club members informed of all available sessions. He or she maintains records on skating sessions and collects and deposits fees paid.

Communications/Parent Liaison: The liaison assembles and reviews all communications for the Club newsletter and website. He or she is available to answer questions from members and acts as liaison between members and the Board of Directors. As a part of these duties, the liaison monitors Club voice mail, answering questions directly when possible and passing messages to the appropriate Board personnel otherwise.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES
Special committees are established yearly as required for Club events (for example, the Crystalline Classic competition, bi-annual Spring Show, fireworks stand, and Redwood Classic competition). Frequently, special committees are chaired by a Board member, who works closely with a group of volunteer Club members and families to run the event.
